Village of Sharenska

Sharenska is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Madan Municipality, Smolyan region.

It is about 4 km southwest from the town of Madan, about 36 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, about 19 km east from the town of Rudozem and 275 km southeast from Sofia.
The village is connected by regular bus service to the town of Madan.

Located in the central Rhodopes mountain at 725 meters altitude. The climate is continental. Winter is long but mild. Summer is cool.

The permanent population is about 230 people.

The village has shops and pub. Completely electrified and water installations are put, there is cable TV, Internet and mobile phone coverage. Nearest kindergarten, schools and hospital are located in the town of Madan.

TOURISM AND LANDMARKS

In the town of Madan you can visit the following landmarks:

  • Cave-museum - "Sharenka". This is the first in Bulgaria Cave-Museum.
  • Area Gabata - a small rock cave in where were found pottery pieces from different eras. Following the path on the cliff to reach the Thracian mines, which were found primitive tools for the extraction of ore and clay lamps.
  • Nearby is the rock 'Rimpapa" - 50 m high, resembling a man with a cloak. Behind it there are remains of an ancient village, where they found traces of clay pipe.
  • Area Kichikaya old bulgarian fortress later conquered by the Romans. There are old stone buildings and walls of the fortress wall. Fully preserved, and the well is carved nine meters down the cliff.

In Smolyan village guests can explore: History Museum Smolyan, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion", Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.
