Village of Laka

Luka is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.

In Bulgaria there is a another village with the same name in Pomorie Municipality, Burgas region.

It is situated 13 km east from the town of Smolyan, 20 km northwest from the town of Madan, 33 km southeast from the town of Chepelare and 252 km in the same direction from the capital Sofia.

There is a regular bus service to the village from Smolyan.

Located in a mountainous area at 980 m altitude. The climate is mountainous, with a strong influence of the Mediterranean. Winters are mild and snowy, summers are cool and humid and autumn - long and warm.

The permanent population is about 100 inhabitants.

The village has a shop and a cafe. There is a range of mobile operators, cable TV and Internet. The nearest hospital, kindergarten and school are in the town of Smolyan.

Tourism and sightseeing

Neighboring village Vlahovo / 3 km northwest / is known for the cave "Potoka" in the area Potoche.

In the town of Smolyan village guests can visit the Historic Museum Smolyan - the oldest and largest in the Rhodope Mountains, Smolyan Planetarium, Rhodope Drama Theatre, "St. Vissarion"Monument of Orpheus and Eurydice, Rozhen Observatory.

In the town of Madan you can see these landmarks: Cave Museum "Sharenka", area Gabata, rock 'Rimpapa", area Kichikaya.

Only 31 km southeast is the most popular and biggest ski resort in Bulgaria - Pamporovo. At the resort you can find nice hotels with all modern amenities and excellent service.
