The village of Golyama Bara is located in Southern Bulgaria, the municipality of Kardzhali, Kardzhali region.
Golyama Bara is about 25 km away from Kardzhali and about 195 km away from the capital city Sofia.
The village's population, according to the last population count data from 2010, is 54 people.
Located in a mountain region, Golyama Bara is at latitude of 545 m. The summers are fresh and the winters are cold and long.
The road to the village is paved, the mobile operators have good coverage. The land in this area are suitable for growing tobacco, wines, fruit and cereal cultures. The locals depend on the tourist flow, going to the located nearby "Utrobata" cave (the womb - transl.) The nearest hospital, school, kindergartens and post office can be found in the city of Kardzhali.
The "Utrobata"cave was found in april 2001. Amongst the people, it is known as "Dangardak kaya". The depth of the cave is approximately 22m. It has been scientifically proven than the cavity is made out of carst and was initially about 16m deep. The elongation is a result of human interference, shaping it up as a woman's womb with water running down the walls. In the south end of the cave there is an altar, symbolizing the uterus. The cave's height is about 3m, and its width - about 2,5m, letting enough light into the cave. The most popular and preferred tourist path to the Ütrobata"is Kardzhali - Enchetz - Dazhdovnitza - Padartzi - the "Borovitza"cabin.
