Staro selo is a village situated in Northern Bulgaria. It is part of Troyan Municipality, Lovech region.

There are four more villages with the same name. They are located in the municipalities of Mezdra (Vratsa region), Tutrakan (Silistra region), Radomir (Pernik region) and Sliven (Sliven region).

It is located 41 km south-west from town of Lovech, 26 km north-west from town of Troyan, 48 km north-east from town of Teteven, 130 km in the same direction from city of Sofia and 51 km south-east from town of Lukovit.

Its population is approximately 220 people.

The village spreads out a mountainous region, at 445 m above sea level. It is set on the northern slopes of the Balkan Mountains, near Sopot Dam.

The climate is humid continental which is influenced by the mountain. Summer is cool and winter - cold.

Staro selo is a well-developed village with electricity and water provided. There is a town-hall, health services, a church, a community centre and shops. Kindergarten and school are available in the neighbouring village of Borima, which is 7 km in eastern direction.

There is an operational dairy farm producing first-classed dairy products for Bulgaria and abroad. The company is one of the leading producers of traditional dairy products.

Tourism

The local Church of St Ivan Rilski is operational and well-preserved. It is a worth seeing cultural site in the village.

Natural sites in the region are the caves of Momski kamak, Toplya and Yalovitsa, which are often visited by speleologists.

Kalnik River springs near the village and pours into Sopot Dam, which is a perfect place for water sports and fishing.

The National Park 'Central Balkan' is just 50 km away from the village. It is one of the most preferred places for walks in Bulgaria. The park was created to preserve the amazing wild nature of the middle part of the Balkan Mountains.
