Valkovo is a village in South-western Bulgaria. It is part of Sandanski Municipality, Blagoevgrad region.
It stands 58 km south of town of Blagoevgrad, 5 km west of town of Sandanski, 140 km south of city of Sofia and 27 km north-west of the Bulgarian-Greek border at village of Kulata.
It is in close proximity to the international road E-79 and the railway line Sofia-Kulata-Athens.
Its population is approximately 380 people.
The village spreads out the south-eastern foot of Maleshevska Mountain, at 85 m above sea level.
Struma River passes along the settlement.
The climate is transitional-Mediterranean with mild winter and hot, long summer.
The natural conditions are favourable for stock-breeding and growing of early vegetables and perennial plants.
Valkovo is a well-developed village, provided with electricity, water and telephone net. There is a town-hall, a community centre (with a library) and commercial areas.
Medical and education centres are available in the municipal town of Sandanski - 5 km away.
Valkovo is in close proximity to many tourist sites in South-western Bulgaria. It is just 5 km away from the balneotherapy centre of Bulgaria - Sandanski - the warmest town in Bulgaria, popular with its thermal springs.
Just 27 km is the smallest town of Bulgaria - Melnik. It was declared a cultural-historical reserve.
Only 18 km is the popular Rupite land, where the famous Bulgarian prophecy Vanga used to live.
