Village of Sokol

Sokol is a village in southeastern Bulgaria. It is located in Nova Zagora Municipality, Sliven region.

In Bulgaria there is another village with the same name in Glavinitsa Municipality, Silistra region.

It is located 14 km southeast from the town of Nova Zagora, about 50 km southwest from the town of Sliven and 276 southeast from Sofia. Village of Elenovo is located 5 km to the southeast.
There is regular bus service. Road infrastructure is relatively good. There is a new asphalt road between the towns of Nova Zagora and Yambol, it is passing through the village.

It is situated on the southern slopes of St. Ilia hills on the banks of the River Selska. The altitute is ranging from 200 to 300 meters. The climate is temperate continental. Winters are mild and dry, relatively warm summers. Autumn is longer than spring.

The population is about 220 people. Main occupation are viticulture and horticulture.

The village has a community center, shop and café. In the village of Elenovo you can find church, school and kindergarten. There are two parks in one of them was built playground for the children and a hotel with restaurant and wine cellar. The nearest hospital is located in the town of Nova Zagora.

Tourism and landmarks

Erduvanliyskoto Teke is located on top of St. Elias / Ada Tepe / 3 km north of the village. It is also called: Tekke, Erduvanliyskoto kale. Many stories and legends are associated with this place, relating mainly to honour the gods. The earliest traces of human presence dating from the Early Iron Age. This area combines three features: a peak, a peak, and its southern slopes are dotted with rocks having a particular colour and shape, and below the southern slope there is a well / spring, spring / with fresh cold water.

Tomb of Sultan Baba Kademlia, a prism with seven walls - width of 3.60 m and side height - 7.50 m, with a square hall with walls 5 meters.

Mound "Himitliyata" / flat mound / lies about 3 km southeast from the village. It has a diameter of about 100 meters and a height of 9 meters. Currently systematic excavations carried out included in the overall project "Falcon" and funded by the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski "and Historical Museum - Nova Zagora. Pottery typical of the time and has many parallels in neighbouring mounds such as the ones near the villages Dyadovo and Ezero.

In the area of Elenovo is situated winery Edoardo Miroglio. The winery is surrounded by vineyards, lake and green meadows, which create favourable conditions for tourism, combined with wine tasting.

In the vicinity there are many dams. The flora and fauna are diverse - located pheasants, rabbits, carp and others.
