Konush is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is located in Municipality Asenovgrad, District of Plovdiv.

There is one more settlement with the same name in Municipality Haskovo, District of Haskovo.

Location:

It stands about 18 km north-east of the town of Asenovgrad, about 37 km south-east of the town of Plovdiv and about 183 km south-east of the capital of Sofia.

There is a regular bus line to and from Asenovgrad.

The relief of the village is lowland, with average altitude of 190 m.
The climate is continental, with mild winters and warm, dry summers.

The village population is about 725 residents.

The infrastructure of Konush includes partly asphalted and lighted streets, electrification and telephone lines.

The village has a town house, church, post office, shop, and café.

There is a dental practice in the village of Konush. General practitioner can be found in the village of Izbeglii about 5 km north-west, and closest hospital is in Asenovgrad.
The closest kindergarten is in the village of Izbeglii, the closest schools are in Zlatovrah (primary school) and Asenovgrad, where the high schools are located.

 

Attractions

Golyamata Mogila- Kuleto (the big mound) is a relic of an ancient Thracian settlement. Several similar mounds have been found in the vicinity of the village.

Right by the village is Konush Reservoir with area 37.68 ha. Through different times of the year there have been established 114 species of birds, 21 of which have been included in “The Red Book of Endangered Species of Bulgaria”(1985).
Of  species occurring, 42 are of European conservation importance. Three species are included as globally threatened, and 9 species are as threatened in Europe. The dam is of international importance because of the Pygmy Cormorant, which is seen here during migration and winter.
