Bankya is a village in West Bulgaria. It is situated in Tran municipality, Pernik region

In Bulgaria there is another settlement with the same name it is the town of Bankya in Sofia municipality, Sofia region

It is 7 km north of the town of Tran and 48 km northwest of Pernik. The capital Sofia is 78 km southeast. 

It is situated on the border line with Serbia in hilly area. The climate is with clearly expressed four seasons - warm but not hot summer while the winter is severe. The spring is cool with lots of precipitation and comes in the end of March the beginning of April and the fall is warmer. 

The permanent population is about 7 people. 

In Bankya there is outdoor swimming pool with mineral water. Because in the area there are many mineral springs near the village is constructed workshop for bottling of mineral water. In Tran are working the nearest GPs, dentists, hospital, kindergarten and school. Local people offer the tourists accommodation and food. 

Tourism and landmarks

Bankya is a starting point of the Tran route which leads to Erma River Gorge. In proximity to the village is located the Yablanitsa Gorge which is as much as beautiful as the gorge on Erma river. 

The rock church St Petka near Tran is also interesting to be seen. 

Another natural landmark in the area is the Vrabcha waterfall which is just 2 km away. 

The people who enjoy fishing could go to the dams located in proximity Yarlovtsi, Lilyantsi and Krasava. 

It is curious that in the village there is renovated house that was divided into two by the border between Bulgaria and Serbia set by Treaty of Neuilly-sur-Seine.
