The village of Povet

Povet is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of Kardzhali Municipality, Kardzhali Region.

It is located 4 km north-east of Kardzhali, 48 km south-west of Haskovo, 114 km in the same direction of Svilengrad and 244 km south-east of Sofia.

Povet is set in the Eastern Rhodopes at an altitude of about 318 m. The climate is transitional-Mediterranean with hot summer and mild winter.

The population is approximately 90 people.

The village is provided with electricity and water and has relatively good infratsructure - partly asphalted and lighted streets. The management is in the neighbouring village of Zimzelen /2 km in the north/ is administratively provided by the mayor hall in the village of Povet.

There is a mosque here. Students attend the secondary school in the regional town of Kardzhali, where the nearest kindergartens, post office, police department and hospitals are as well.

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Characteristic of the local landscape are the so called Kardzhali pyramids which can be seen in various areas east and north-east of Kardzhali, but the most famous and impressive are those near the village of Zimzelen, where the rock phenomenon The Stone wedding is situated. It represents a group of natural rock formations of figures with height up to 10 m, resembling wedding-guests. The site is natural landmark. It could be reached by a marked ecological path as well.

Only 21 km north-east of the village is situated the archeological complex of 'Perperikon' - one of the 100 National Tourist Sites.

Two ecopaths pass near the village of Povet:

  • town of Kardzhali - village of Solishte - the Television tower in the village of Ivantsi - village of Zimzelen - village of Sipei - town of Kardzhali. The route passes through areas rich of rear endemic plants and fossils.
