Avren is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Krumovgrad, Kardzhali region.

In Bulgaria there is another village of the same name, which is located in Varna region.

Avren Village is located in a mountainous area about 4 km from the border with Greece. It is located about 20 km south of Krumovgrad, about 69 km southeast of the regional center Kardzhali and about 330 km southeast of Sofia.

The population is around 448 people.

The terrain is hilly and almost in the center of the village rises a hill, which is the highest point in the region. Avren is situated at about 550 m altitude, the climate is transitional Mediterranean. Winters are relatively mild and summers are long and hot.

The village has many springs and streams in which there is water almost the whole year.Through the territory of the village flow Osogovo river and Ryakata river. Both in the past and nowadays they have great economic importance to the local residents. Two other rivers located to the east and to the west respectively are: Malka Ryaka river to the east, that separates Avren from the lands of the villages Chernichevo and Blagun, and Maglenishka river to the west.

The area of the village is suitable for hunting tourism, because there are wild boars and deer. Other representatives of the wildlife that occur in the region are wolf, fox, hedgehog, and recently threatened with extinction turtles.

Avren has good transport links, water and electricity.

The village has a town hall, community center, church, chapel, primary school and kindergarten. The nearest post office is in Chernichevo village, the nearest general hospital - in the town of Kardzhali.

CULTURAL AND NATURAL SITES

One of the biggest attractions in the village is the church "St. Nikolai Chudotvorets". Other attractions in the village of Avren are: the chapel built on the site of the demolished church in the area The Village; the old church "St. Ilia"- there is set the oldest school.

The village has a Monument for those who died during the Balkan war. The library "Narodni Buditeli" also represents a cultural heritage for the locals. Today's primary school "Mihail Hristov" is the successor of the first primary school opened in the village.

Each year in the last week of September is held the traditional village fair.
