Dolno Osenovo is a village in southern Bulgaria, in the municipality of Simitly, Blagoevgrad Region.

It is located at about 16 km northeast of the town of Simitly, 32 km southeast of the regional centre Blagoevgrad, 132 km of the capital Sofia city and about 32 km of one of the most popular winter resorts – Bansko.

Dolno Osenovo is located in the southern part of the Rila Mountain at an altitude about 800 m, near the rivers Rakochevska and Topolichka, which flow into each other to form Osenovska River near the village.

The relief is mountainous and hilly which determines the presence of numerous mineral hot springs.

The climate is continental. During the winter temperatures drop to minus 10-12 degrees and the highest summer temperatures reach 38-40 degrees.

The population is about 1450 people.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The village of Dolno Osenovo has well developed infrastructure – the roads are in good condition, most of the streets are paved and lighted. It has water supply, electricity and sewerage systems as well as a fully developed telecommunications network. All mobile operators have coverage. There is a regular bus transport three times a day from the regional centre Blagoevgrad to the village.

Dolno Osenovo is located only 4 km from one of the busiest thoroughfares in the direction Sofia city – Bansko. The traffic on this road is particularly busy during the winter due to the increasing interest in winter sports in the resort of Bansko.

In recent years the construction of two- and three-storey houses in the village has developed rapidly.

Dolno Osenovo comprises a functioning mayor hall, community centre with a library, dance and vocal female groups and a few grocery stores. The village has a kindergarten, primary school "St. Paisiy Hilendarski" /the oldest school in the municipality of Simitly/, a mosque, a kindergarten and a medical centre, manned by one GP and one dentist. The nearest hospital is located in the town of Blagoevgrad.

The main occupation of the population is tobacco. The region has well developed stock-breeding and wood industry. Rue, barley and potatoes are grown too.

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Remains of an ancient bath, most probably built near a hot spring, can be found in the vinicity of the village of Dolno Osenovo. There is a small tomb from the Roman period at about 2 km southeast of the village.

Ат 3 km north of the village, in Old Osenovo, there are remains of a medieval church with graves on the side of the altar. There can also be found foundations of dwellings, ceramic and a hoard of Byzantine coins.

In the area of Kalyata /4 km in the north/ one can find traces of fortifications, preserved up to one meter in height. The fortress was built during the Second Bulgarian kingdom.

Dolno Osenovo is famous for its extremely attractive hot springs which can be found in the whole area of the village. The temperature of the thermal waters varies in the range 30 - 60 degrees. The waters are suitable for spa and balneoprevention since they have beneficial effects on osteoporosis, bone fractures, diseases on the musculoskeletal, neurological and gynecological diseases.

The traditional two-day festival “Pirin pee” is also quite interesting for tourists. It is held every two years in the Predela pass near Razlog, only 20 km from the village of Dolno Osenovo.
