Krasen is a village in the Central part of Northern Bulgaria. It is part of Ivanovo Municipality, Ruse Region.

There is another village in Bulgaria with the same name. It is located in General Toshevo Municipality, Dobrich Region.

Krasen is 13 km south of Ruse, 10 km north-east of Ivanovo, 293 km in the same direction of Sofia and 187 km north-west of Varna.

The village nestles in the canyon typed valley of Rusenski Lom River, at the Danube plain. The sea altitude is 103 m. The settlement is surrounded by high limestone rocks with many caves in them.

Summer is dry and hot with average July temperature of about 22 C, and winter is cold, with average January temperature of about 0 C.

The village is provided with electricity, water and communication equipment.
The population is approximately 650 people.
There is a town-hall, a post office, a medical centre, a police inspector on duty, a community centre with a library, a church, food shops, public houses and guest houses.
The nearest schools and kindergartens are in village of Ivanovo and town of Ruse.

Village of Krasen is famous with its plant for mushroom production. It is one of the biggest mushroom production plants on the Balkans. There are 13 caves assimilated for mushroom growing. The natural conditions for mushroom growing attract many tourists.
The village celebrates the Holiday of the mushroom on 28th May.

Tourism

On the left banks of Rusenski Lom River, about 3 km north-west of Krasen, are situated Krasenski monasteries, consisting of churches and cells on two levels. The churches are one of the biggest in the area.

The place is very convenient for tourism. There are eco-paths on the river valley of Rusenski Lom. The conditions are excellent for fishing in the river and in the breeding ponds around the village.

Rusenski Lom Natural Park is one of the ten natural parks in Bulgaria. The guests may visit the medieval town of Cherven, Ivanovo rock churches, Basarbovo rock monastery and Orlova chuka cave.
