The village of Boynik

The village of Boynik is located in Southern Bulgaria, in the municipality of Krumovgrad, Kardzhali region. The village's name was Yurpek until 1934. 

Boynik is 15km away from the municipality centre Krumovgrad, about 27km away from Kardzhali and about 230km away from the capital city Sofia.

According to the last population count data from 2010, the village is depopulated.

Boynik is located in the confines of the municipality of Krumovgrad and is very close to the municipalities of Momchilgrad and Stambolovo. At the other shore of the "Studen Kladenetz" dam lies the territory of the municipality of Kardzhali. All three of Boynik's neighborhoods are amongst the famous Rhodope Mountains reserves. "Valchi dol" was created to preserve the unique birds fauna, and especially for preserving the only colony of griffins in Bulgaria. 
Its old name - "Yurpek", the village owns to a namesake mountain, inhabited with rough people. They had unique culture, than can still be seen - some beautiful stone houses, wells, some stone and wood made instruments and etc.

 

 Boynik can be reached only by foot. The nearest school is in Krumovgrad. So are the nearest hospital, post office and church.

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

The thracian fortress "Pandak Khaya" is located north off the namesake peak, and about 2km northwest away from the village of Boynik. It was built on a rocky slope, reachable only from the south side.  From the other sides the slopes are vertical. Because of it hard-to-reach location, the wall has been preserved under a 4,5m embankment. It is supposed that the wall is 2,5-3m wide. There is a tower in the middle part of the wall.

A "Fellow countryman gathering" is held yearly, the tradition being followed for 32 years now.

An interesting tourist destination is the "Valchi Dol" reserve.There could be found 15 plant species, recorded in the Red Book of Bulgaria. There are 23 raptor species, 21 of them also included in the Red Book of Bulgaria. The Emperial Eagle and the black vulture are amongst the endangered species, according to the BIRDLIFE International records. There is a large reptile variety, as well. Amongs the mammals could be seen hinds, wild bore, wolves and others.
