Village of Prohod

Prohod is a village in the municipality of Sredets, Burgas region.

 It is located 11 km southwest of Sredets, 43 km in the same direction of Burgas and about 370 km southeast of Sofia.

 The village is situated on the River Sredetska, at an altitude of 136 m. The climate is characterized by long, dry summers and autumns and winters are mild and without snow.

The population is about 140 people. In the village properties have families from England and Russia.

There is bus service to the town of Sredets twice daily and regular service to the neighboring settlements - Belila, Kubadin and Bistrets.


The village is built electricity and water supply systems, a range of some of the mobile operators. There is a town hall, restaurant and two shops. Nearest kindergarten and school are located in the town of Sredets. Medical care is covered from hospitals in Burgas and community center.

In Prohod guests can see the church "Virgin Birth," which was built in 1884 and was renovated in 2008. Another interesting places to visit are also:

In Debelt / 21 km / is the only one of its kind in Europe reserve of dragonflies. It holds 19 species of these beautiful insects and attract the interest of visitors and scholars from around the world. Near the village are the ruins of the ancient village Deultum,  which was an important Byzantine city between Bulgaria and Byzantium in 705. In the village of Debelt is the only studied medieval custom in Europe in which Byzantium have paid their annual tribute to Bulgaria. The village operates archaeological museum artefacts are exposed.


In the town of Sredets are fortress "Kale", and archaeological expositions and ethnographic  house.
