Village of Pastren

Pastren is a village in South Bulgaria. It is located in Opan Municipality, Stara Zagora region.

Village is situated in Upper Thracian Valley, it is 25 km south from the city of Stara Zagora, 105 km east from the nearest airport in the city of Plovdiv, 235 km east from the capital city of Sofia.
With an altitude of 149 m and population of around  265 inhabitants.
The terrain is flat. The climate is characterizes with mild winter and hot summer.
There is a regular bus transport to the village from the district town.

In Pastren there is health service with a general practitioner, post office, community center with a small library, several supermarkets and restaurants. The primary school is closed. The nearest school  is in the village of Opan.

Interesting is the origin of the name of the village. During the Ottoman Turks forbade slavery to wear clothes in bright clothes, but village residents wore only that and there comes the present name of the village - Pastren.

The traditional livelihood of the village, agriculture and livestock, continues to evolve today. The main crops grown are wheat, sunflower, barley, maize and cotton.
The village operates a large private pig farm.
