Village of Streltsi

Streltsi is a village in southeastern Bulgaria. It is located in Kotel Municipality, Sliven region.

In Bulgaria there is another village with the same name in Brezovo municipality,  Plovdiv region.

It is located 61 km north from the town of Sliven, 39 km northwest from the town of Kotel, about 38 km east from the town of Elena and 300 km northeast from the city of Sofia.
There is regular bus transport to the district town.

It is situated at the foot of Stara Planina mountain, 500 meters above sea level. The permanent population is about 420 people. In 2006 depopulated villages of Kamenna and Niska polyana were joined with the village of Streltsi.

The climate is temperate continental with an  influence of mountain climate area - moderate winters, cool summers and long and warm autumn.

The village has a town hall, community center, primary school and shops for food and other goods. There is cable TV, Internet and coverage of all mobile operators. Health care is in the hands of a general practitioner. Nearest health and educational facilities are located in the town of Kotel.

Surroundings and sights

Kotel and Elena are cities with important cultural and historical significance and attract Bulgarian and foreign tourists for its rich history and Renaissance architecture.

In the town of  Kotel you can visit:

  • Pantheon of Georgi Rakovski,
  • Museum of the Renaissance,
  • Museum of Natural History,
  • Historical Museum with 3 exposures in the city and 5 exposures in the village of Zheravna and village of Medven.

In the town of Elena:

  • The house-museum "Ilarion Makreopolski",
  • The Clock Tower,
  • Daskalolivnitsata - the first Bulgarian secondary school founded by Ivan Momchilov in 1843,
  • Church "St. Nikola",
  • Church "Assumption" with the belfry,
  • Five Razsukanovi houses,
  • Popnikolova house,
  • Museum of Paleontology.
