Kozhintsi is a village in West Bulgaria. It is located in Tran municipality, Pernik region.

It is 12 km south of the town of Tran and 58 km northwest of the town of Pernik. The capital Sofia is 88 km east.

It is situated in mountain region and its altitude is about 1042 m. The climate is with clearly expressed four seasons - warm but not hot summer, while the winter is cold. The spring is cool and with lots of precipitation, it comes in the end of March the beginning of April, the fall is warmer than it.

The permanent population of the village is about 42 km.

Bus transportation connects it to the nearest settlements. Kozhintsi is with electricity system, the mobile operators have coverage.

Once a week comes GP, the nearest hospital is in the town of Pernik. Stores you will find in the municipality where are also functioning school and kindergarten.

There are two legends about the name of the village. The first is about Turkish villains that were skinned. The other tells about two lovers, the brothers of the girl did not approve the man of their sister and took off his skin.

 

Tourism and landmarks

Here flows Kozhinska river that is nice place for excursions in the nature. The area is rich of caves among them Kalugerski kamik and Mechata dupka.

The neighboring village of Busintsi is famous for "Museum exhibition of the Busintsi ceramics" that was found in 1982. In addition to the halls there are workshops and small hotel room part.
Now in the museum there are over 1300 pieces (jugs, jars, cups, bowls, casseroles, pots etc.) total of about a hundred different forms made by over a thousand craftsmen from the village and the region. Only in this museum you could see the so called "okanicheta" which are small jugs for wine and rakiya, the "crondir" which is unique kind of a jug with a hole in the middle. The museum is also keeping a hundred year old furnace that was used by the world famous craftsman Petar.

In proximity are situated the picturesque Erma River Gorge, Ruy peak, the rock church "St Petka", the Tran monastery and the Vrabcha monastery.

There is great opportunity for the hunting lovers to catch something in the woods near the village that are full of wild animals. The people who prefer fishing could go the near dams Yarlovtsi and Lilyantsi.
