The village of Hromitsa

Hromitsa is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of Ardino Municipality, Kardzhali Region.

It is located at 20 km north-east of Ardino, 20 km south-west of Kardzhali, 32 km north-west of Momchilgrad and 263 km south-east of the capital Sofia.

The village is situated in the Eastern Rhodopes, not far from Kardzhali Dam at an altitude of about 556 m. The climate is characterized with hot summer and mild winter.

The population is approximately 35 people.

The village is provided with electricity and water and has partly asphalted and lighted streets and good transport connections. There is a grocery store here.

The nearest schools, GP and dentist are in the village of Borovitsa /10 km in the north/. The nearest hospital is in Kardzhali.

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Hromitsa is located about 13 km away of Kardzhali Dam. The dam is a perfect place for yachting, surfing and swimming. It is convenient for fishing as well, due to its variety of fish - brook trout, sturgeon, carp, amour, chub, perch, etc.

Only 10 km in the north-west, near the village of Bashevo, you can visit the Medieval fort Krivus, built in X century in order to protect the area near Arda River in the eastern parts of the Rhodope mountains.

At about 30 km in the south-west, in a picturesque narrow gorge over the River Arda, can be visited "The Devil's Bridge" /"Sheytan Kyupria" in Turkish/ built in the late Middle Ages.

The tourist landmark 'Perperikon' /42 km north-east/ is also intersting - archeological complex, consisting of large megalithic sanctuary, monuments from the antiquity and medieval fortress. It is part of the 100 National Tourist Sites.
