The village of Siniger

Siniger is a village situated in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of Krumovgrad Municipality, Kardzhali region.

The village is located 21 km south-eats ot the town of Krumovgrad and respectively 69 and 310 km of the town of Kardzhali and the capital Sofia city. The neighbouring village of Chernichevo is situated 7 km in the south.

The village is situated in the southern part of the Eastern Rhodopes. The relief of the region is hilly. The sea altitude is 550 m. The climate is influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. Summer is long and hot, winter - mild.

The population of the village is about 50 people.

The village is relatively well-developed. There are water supply and electricity systems. The nearest church, mosque, post office and community centre are in the village of Chernichevo. Medical assistance can be obtained by the GP in the village of Avren /15 km south-west of Siniger/. The nearest elementary school is again there. General hospital and secondary school one can find in Krumovgrad.

Siniger has good transport links. It is located only 11 km from the national border with Greece. The international transport corridor No 9 Kardzhali-Makaza-Alexondropolis passes nearby.

Tobacco is the main crop which provides the livelihood of the population. Stock-breeding is well developed too.

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

In the neighbourin village of Chernichevo a regular village fair is held annualy around 21st August. The fair gathers people from the whole region.

Byala reka River springs near the village. It is the first eco zone announced from the ecological net 'NATURA 2000' in the Eastern Rhodopes. Pure water and white stones characterize the river. There are significant natural phenomena along the river called 'Meanders of Byala reka'.

There are two micro-dams in close proximity that are suitable for fishing and one surveillance point for shooting big game.
