The village of Sedlari

Sedlari is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Momchilgrad, Kardzhali region.

It is located 5 km west of Momchilgrad, about 16 km south of the regional center Kardzhali, about 61 km south-west of Haskovo and about 257 km south-east of the capital Sofia city.

The village is situated in the Eastern Rhodopes, in an area with mountainous relief at altitude of about 237 m. The climate is temperate to Mediterranean with mild winters and hot summers. Varbitsa river passes near the village. The lands around the village are suitable for cultivation, vineyards, orchards and cereals.

Here live approximately 190 people.

Sedlari is provided with water and electricity. It comrises two neighbourhoods - Vetrets and Dabovets. The close proximity to the municipal center determines its relatively good infrastructure - partly asphalted and lighted streets. There is a grocery store here. The nearest police department, schools, kindergartens and health centers are in Momchilgrad. 

TOURIST SITES

In the area around the village there are numerous natural and cultural attractions.

Several niches dating back from XI-XII century A.D were found near the village. The niches were used for religious rituals accorind to archaeologists.

Natural phenomenon "Petrified Forest"
It is located in the village of Raven /about 13 km north-east of Sedlari/ and it was declared a protected site in the "landmark" category. It represents petrified trees and its age is about 30 million years. During the summer months "Petrified Forest" is often visited by biologists, naturalists and ecotourists.

Reserve "Borovets"
Reserve "Borovets" /also about 13 km of the village/ is one of the four in the Eastern Rhodopes and is of national importance. It was declared a protected site in order to protect the easternmost natural habitat of pine. The flora is fairly well studied - pine, oak vergiliev, oak, wild pear, apple, prickly juniper and others, as well as fauna, some of which are in Bulgaria's Red Book and are protected in European and world scale.

The Old mosque
The mosque is located in the town of Momchilgrad and it was built about 300 years ago. During these years has always been operation as a religious temple. It is the only mosque in the field with two minarets and collect hundreds of believers to prayer.
