The village of Iliysko

Iliysko is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Dzhebel, Kardzhali Region.

The village is located 11 km south-east of Dzhebel, 32 km south of Kardzhali, 28 km south-west of Momchilgrad and about 272 km south-east of the capital Sofia city.

It is situated in an area with mountainous relief at an altitude of 320 meters. The climate is transitional-Mediterranean, winters are relatively mild and summers are long and hot.

Administratively the village of Iliysko comprises the neighbourhood of Merdzhenik as well. The population is about 120 people.

Iliysko is a relatively well developed village, the main streets are paved, there are electricity and water supply systems, as well as coverage of the mobile operators and bus transport to Dzhebel.

The village of Iliysko comprises a kindergarten "Radost" and a grocery store. Secondary school, community center and specialized medical care you will find in the town of Dzhebel. The nearest general hospital is located in Momchilgrad.

 LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

The Chamluka reserve - the smallest reserve in the Eastern Rhodopes, is located at only 17 km in the north-west, near the village of Vodenicharsko. Its square surface is 30 000 sq. m. The natural phenomenon of 'Schupenata planina' ('The broken mountain' in English) is situated very close to the village.

The natural site 'Kaleto', representing rock shapes on area of 22.40 hectares is set in the settlement of the village of Ustren /13 km in the west/.

The Medieval fortress of Ustra is also interesting for tourists. This is one of the most preserved fortresses in the Rhodopes situated near the village of Ustren as well. It is an archeological monument with national significance. The fortress was built during the Middle Ages. It was powered mainly by the Byzantium Empire. Ustra was built in Xth century with the purpose to protect the passing trade road from there.
