Petrovo is a village in South-western Bulgaria. It is part of Sandanski Municipality, Blagoevgrad Region.

There is another village in Bulgaria with the same name. It is located in Stara Zagora Municipality, Stara Zagora Region.

Petrovo is 94 km south-east of Blagoevgrad, 38 km in the same direction of Sandanski, 48 km west of Hadzhidimovo, 22 km east of Marikostinovo and 19 km north-east of the Bulgarian-Greek border at Kulata. The capital of Sofia is about 185 km away.

The village nestles at the foot of Slavyanka Mountain, at 425 m above the sea level. In the southern part of the settlement passes Petrovska River. There is hydroelectricity station on it.
The relief is hilly and the climate - transitional-Mediterranean. Summer is long and hot, winter - mild and short.

The population is approximately 670 people.

Petrovo is well-developed and provided with electricity, water, partial sewerage system and communication equipment. There is a town-hall, a post office, a community centre, a doctor, a police inspector on duty, two centres for children with mental retardation, commercial areas and accommodation rooms.
The community centre has a library, singing and dancing groups and other studies.
The nearest elementary school is in the neighbouring village of Katuntsi (6 km).
Regular bus transportation serves the village: Petrovo - Sandanski - Strumyani - Kresna - Simitli - Sofia.

There are gold and marble deposits in the region.
The climate and nature conditions are favourable for industrial crops growing - mainly vineyards. Good conditions for hunting and fishing.

Landmarks and tourism

Petrovo is a starting point for tourist routes to the mountains of Pirin and Slavyanka, and to the reserve 'Ali Botush'. In south-eastern direction of the village (about an hour and a half on foot) spreads out 'Izvora' land. There is a holiday home. Here could be seen the third biggest karst spring in Bulgaria.

About 2 km south is 'St George' chapel where every year the fair of the village takes place on the holiday of St George. There are two churches and one chapel in the village.

The guests may visit in the region some of the 100 national tourist sites:
Town of Melnik - the Historical museum, the Kordopulova house and the Rozhen monastery;
Town of Petrich - the Rupite land and the Samuil Fortress.
