Kapitan Andreevo is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is situated in Svilengrad municipality, Haskovo region, on the border with Republic of Turkey.

The village is in the Upper Thracian lowland, along Maritsa river. Its altitude is about 30 m. The distance to the capital of Sofia is 270 km., to Plovdiv 138 km, to the sea town of Burgas 130 km, to the regional town of Haskovo is 66 km and to the municipal town of Svilengrad - 11 km.

Nowadays Captain Andreevo is the largest village in the municipality of Svilengrad numbering 1,021 inhabitants.

In the center of the village are the buildings of the primary school "Cap. Nikola Andreev, the community centre "Nova nadejda" and the City hall. On an own plot in the square was built the church "St. George the Dragon Slayer". In the municipal Svilengrad, which is 10 minutes away with a car, there are four кindergartens and one nursery. Intermediate stop for tourists or business-working is the Captain Andreevo Hotel with private parking and a restaurant. There are some motels and small hotels near the village of Kapitan Andreevo and along the International road to Turkey.

In Captain Andreevo there is a general practitioner doctor as well as a dentist, and in the nearby Svilengrad a General Hospital for Active Treatment is located.

The village is named after Captain Nikola Andreev, who died in 1912, for the liberation of Bulgaria. There are two monuments made in his honor - the first one is in the village and the second one is few hundred meters away on a Greek territory. On the highest hill over there rises a tomb-monument of the great Bulgarian captain Nikola Andreev, who gave the name of this beautiful village.

Near the village, on the left bank of the Maritsa Rive, due to the proximity with Turkey, is one of the biggest frontier checkpoint built there Kapitan Andreevo - Kapikule (Bulgarian-Turkish border). Not far away is another frontier checkpoint Kapitan Petko Voivode - Ormenion which connects with Greece. Border control is performed both on road and rail transport. Parallel to the main road was built railways with border stations Svilengrad on the Bulgarian side and Kapikule on Turkish territory.

Nowadays the checkpoint is on the main highway and railway from Western Europe to Asia via Istanbul, but in antiquity this was the ancient Roman road Via Militaris. Today, this station is a major spot for the Bulgarian border, because here passes the main stream of trade between Turkey, Iran and Syria on one hand, and the countries from the European Union on the other. In 2005 the border crossing pedestrians were forbidden.

Kapitan Andreevo - Kapikule is among the largest and busiest frontier chechpoints in the world by number of passengers and amount of cargo passing through it - according to data from 2008, it is the second busiest land border crossing in the world and the busiest in Europe.
