Village of Kipilovo

Kipilovo is a village situated in South-eastern Bulgaria. It is part of Kotel Municipality, Sliven region.

The village is 52 km north from town of Sliven, 24 km west from town of Kotel, 76 km south-east from town of Veliko Tarnovo and 100 km east from town of Gabrovo.

In 2006 the deserted village of Ptichari is annexed to Kipilovo. Its population is approximately 550 people.

Kipilovo is located in the middle part of the Balkan Mountains, near Vratnik pass. The relief is mountainous, at 620 m above sea level. The climate characterizes with mild winter and cool summer.

The village is well-developed. It comprises a town hall, a church, a post office, a comprehensive school, a kindergarten, a community centre and shops. Direct bus line goes to town of Sliven.

Logging is with good contribution to the development of the village. The wood material is imported mainly to Greece. Stock-breeding is in the private farms (goats, sheep and cows).

Tourism

The village characterizes with preserved houses in typical Bulgarian Revival style. Some of them offer guest rooms. The surroundings of the village are convenient for making picnics, going for walks and hunting. There are several small hunting groups. Stara reka River passes nearby. It is very suitable for fishing.

Wall remains and vault arches of Kipilovsko kale (fortress of Kipilovo) could be seen near the village. The fortress was a front shield of the Barbarian attacks from the North. It is located on Hisarlaka peak, 3 km south-east from the village.

Many caves in the region attract speleologists from all over the country.
