Village of Damyanitsa

Damyanitsa is a village situated in South-western Bulgaria. It is part of Sandanski Municipality, Blagoevgrad region.

The village is set 65 km south-west from town of Blagoevgrad, 7 km in the same direction from town of Sandanski and 18 km north-east from town of Petrich.

The settlement spreads out the valley of Struma River, at 116 m above sea level. Its location is favourable for growing crops.

Description 

The old name of the village was Orman Chiflik. Its current name Damyanitsa comes in the 30's of the last century, in honour of the Bulgarian revolutionary Dame Gruev.

The region is with well-developed conservatory agriculture. The population works also in Technomarket, Vinprom-Damyanitsa and some industrial workshops.

The most interesting tourist site here is 'Levunska chuka' (volcanic rock shaped at the eruption of Kozhuh volcano).

Infrastructure

The village comprises two temples: an orthodox and an evangelical; a kindergarten, a comprehensive school, a stadium, 'Samuil' hotel complex, several shops and public houses.

The railway line Sofia-Kulata-Solun passes through the village. Bus transportation is available as well.
