Novachene is a village in West Bulgaria. It is situated in Botevgrad municipality, Sofia region

In Bulgaria there is one other settlement that is with the same name in Nikopol municipality, Pleven region.

It is 15 km northwest of the town of Botevgrad and 73 km northeast of the capital Sofia. The neighboring villages of Skravena, Gurkovo and Litakovo are 5 km southeast, 4 km west and 7 km southwest.

It is situated in the north part of the Botevgrad hollow and its altitude is 320 m. The climate like in the other parts of the hollow is severe with long winter, short spring - cool and windy, and the summer is dry and hot.

The village is well maintained and with maintained infrastructure. There are constructed electricity, water and phone systems. The main streets are asphalted and with lighting as there also is partially made sewerage system. Regular bus transportation connects it to the other settlements.

The permanent population is about 1424 people.

In Novachene are also functioning town hall, church, primary school, community center, kindergarten, stores and restaurants. The nearest GP works in the neighboring village of Litakovo and specialized medical assistance you can get at the medical center in Botevgrad where there also are high schools. The hospitals are on the territory of Sofia.

According to the legend the name of the village comes from a newcomer that received the name Novak and the name is derived from it.

The monastery "Sveto Preobrazhenie" also called Novachenski or Skravenski is situated in Batkun area in the Lakavishki rid of the West Predbalkan (less than 5 km from the village). The monastery was found during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom and was demolished by the Turks and then rebuilt by St Pimen Sofiiski in 1608. During the XIX-th century is again demolished and reconstructed in 1930.
It is complex of a church with pieces of frescoes that remained of the old temple and the residential building. 
Near the monastery is Mechata dupka cave.

The monastery "St Nikolay" is situated in the southwest part of the Lakavishki rid just 2 km from Skravena village. The place has been used as pagan sanctuary and in the reign of king Petar was replaced by a Orthodox church. In 1938 priest from the village of Chelopech saw in his dream St Nikolay and he decided that this dream is a prophecy as the saint showed his a demolished by the Turks temple. When the excavations began there were found the foundations of a burned temple, cell with large fireplace and skeletons of people, that took part in the defense of the holy place.
