Gorochevtsi is a village in West Bulgaria. It is located in Tran municipality, Pernik region

It is 22 km south of the town of Tran and 68 km northwest of the town of Pernik. The neighboring villages of Vidrar and Mramor are 4 km south and 11 km north of it. The capital Sofia is 98 km east.

It is situated in mountain region at the foot of Plocha peak (1329 m) and its altitude is about 988 m. The climate is temperate, half mountain and is characterized by cold winter and warm summer.

The permanent population is about 89 people.

Gorchevtsi is well maintained village with electricity and water systems. To it leads asphalt road and the main streets are with lighting.

Here are working town hall, store, pub and guest house. The nearest school and medical center are in the municipality.

Interesting is the old traditional and preserved in Bulgarian style pub with dyukyan or store from XIX century that is situated in the center of the village. It is actually working and people shop there besides it is tourist attraction.

Just 3 km northwest of the highest peak of Elovishka mountain - Plocha peak (1329 m) it is accessible through unmarked trail. There are two other peaks in this mountain Golema and Malka Kurovitsa. East of the hollow flows the full with water river Kosturinska river and Popova shapka peak (1481 m) from Lyubash mountain. South of the mountain slopes is the river flow and this makes wonderful view to Konyavska mountain and its highest peak Viden (1487 m).

The most important landmark in the village of Gorochevtsi and is the large church from the Bulgarian national revival about the second half of the XIX century. It is with one nave and one apse.

Near the Orthodox temple "St Bogoroditsa" every year there gathering and usually it is organized on the 15 of August.

 

Tourism and landmarks

In the village of Busintsi (18 km north) there is very curious Museum collection of Businska ceramics and it was found "Museum exhibition of the Busintsi ceramics" which was opened in 1982. Together with the museum section and the exhibition halls there are also working studios and small hotel.

Now in the museum there are over 1300 pieces (jugs, jars, cups, bowls, casseroles, pots etc.) total of about a hundred different forms made by over a thousand craftsmen from the village and the region. Only in this museum you could see the so called "okanicheta" which are small jugs for wine and rakiya, the "crondir" which is unique kind of a jug with a hole in the middle. The museum is also keeping a hundred year old furnace that was used by the world famous craftsman Petar.

In proximity are situated the picturesque Erma River Gorge, Rui peak, the rock church "St Petka", the Tran monastery and the Vrabcha monastery.

There is great opportunity for the hunting lovers to catch something in the woods near the village that are full of wild animals. The people who prefer fishing could go the near dams Yarlovtsi and Lilyantsi.
