LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Studen kladenets Dam is perhaps the most picturesque artificial lake in the Rhodopes. Its waters are suitable for fish breeding and water sports (rowing, water wheels).

One of the biggest and high situated fortresses in the Rhodopes Mountain - 'Monyak' medieval fortress, is located above the village. Military garrison was located here, and the inhabitants along Arda River used to find shelter here during military actions. Marked path from Kardzhali exit (in Haskovo direction) leads to the fortress. The site is convenient for tourism.

Another natural landmark near the village is Karangila cave. It has several entrances which are connected in between. Inside the cave were found ceramic fragments - proof that the cave was inhabited in the Antiquity.

In the areas of the villages of Zvezdelina /6 km north-east/ and Visoka polyana /9 km north-east/ is situated the protected area Sredna Arda. It was declared protected in order to preserve rare and endangered spieces of plants and animals as well as remarkable landshaft. The protected area is part of the Important Bird Area (IBA) "Studen kladenets" which has a global nature significance.

The village of Sedlovina is located 15 km away of the rock Thracian palace of 'Perperikon'. The archaeological complex consists of large megalithic sanctuary, holy town and fortress.
