Village of Pchelarovo

Pchelarovo is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of Chernoochene Municipality, Kardzhali region.

There is another village with the same name in Bulgaria. It is located in General Toshevo Municipality, Dobrich region.

Pchelarovo is 18 km north from town of Kardzhali, 4 km in the same direction from village of Chernoochene, 28 km south-west from town of Haskovo and 80 km south-east from town of Plovdiv.

Its population is approximately 150 people.

The village spreads out the Eastern Rhodopes Mountain, at 500 m above sea level. The relief is mountainous and the climate characterizes with warm summer and cold winter.

In close proximity are the mountain tops of Sveta Elenka and Stok Petra.

Pchelarovo comprises a mayor, a doctor, an ethnographic museum with different old exhibits of the rich village's history, a community centre with various literature, a church and shops. There are monuments of Vasil Levski (Bulgarian revolutionary) and the Liberators in the centre of the village. The local fountain is supposed to give healing water.

Tourism

The local church of Sveta Paraskeva features original bell tower with six-wall dome with cross over round columns. Near the church is the old monastery school. In close proximity is the big fountain with a small chapel in front of it. The church is operational and is announced as a monument of culture.

The medieval fortress in Gradishteto land is just 5 km in northern direction from the village. It is near the road leading to town of Haskovo. The fortress is a local monument of culture as well. It is easily accessible and is a pleasant place to visit.

There are several micro-dams in the region, which are suitable for fishing - Minata, Balkanska reka and Mandadere. Excellent are the conditions for hunting tourism as well. The game station of 'Zhenda' breeds red deer, fallow deer, roe, mouflon and wild boar.

Representative of the rare Scots Pine could be seen in the village - "The Venerable pine" is more than 500 years old. It is next to the church.
