Village of Vrakupovitsa

Vrakupovitsa is a village in South-western Bulgaria. It is part of Strumyani Municipality, Blagoevgrad Region.

It is 78 km south-west from town of Blagoevgrad, 28 km west from village of Strumyani, 40 km north-west from town of Sandanski and 63 km in the same direction from the Bulgarian-Greek border at village of Kulata. The capital Sofia is about 163 km away.

The access is by asphalt road to village of Tsaparevo, gravel road to village of Goreme and rough road in good state to village of Vrakupovitsa.

The population is approximately 20 people.

Village of Vrakupovitsa spreads out a mountainous region, at the foot of Maleshevska Mountain. It is 826 m above the sea level.

The climate is transitional-Mediterranean and characterizes with hot, long summer and mild, short winter.

Vrakupovitsa is a small, coquettish village with well-preserved and beautiful nature. It is provided with electricity, water and communication equipment. The most qualified medical services in the region are in village of Mikrevo (26 km). Mikrevo comprises a secondary school and a kindergarten as well.

Tourism

Vrakupovitsa provides excellent conditions for recreation and tourism. It characterizes with fresh, mountainous air, spacious hills and beautiful panoramic sceneries. Tsaparevska River passes nearby and flows into Struma River at village of Strumyani.

In the settlement of Gorna Breznitsa (44 km) is located Gorno-Brezneshki Monastery 'St Prophet Iliya'. It is one of the new Bulgarian monasteries, established in 1992.

Maleshevska Mountain is excellent place for mountainous, eco and hunting tourism. Wonderful conditions for walks, picnics and wild fruit picking. The mountaineers may climb the highest peak here - Ilyov vrah (1803 m), which is several kilometers away of Gorna Breznitsa. Kresnensko gorge on Struma River is the favourite place of rafting lovers.

At village of Ilindentsi (31 km) the open-air marble sculpture park could be visited. On more than 10 000 sq. m are exposed the masterpieces of Bulgarian and foreign artists.
