Sulitsa is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Stara Zagora Municipality, Stara Zagora region.

Sulitsa is located about 16 km northwest from the city of Stara Zagora, 232 km southeast from the city Sofia. The village has regular bus service from the district town.

The village is situated at an altitude of 475 m in Average Sarnena forest on calcareous terrain. The climate is moderate - with snowy winter and cool summer. Through the land of the village passes Banska River (left tributary of the River Syuyutliyka) and several small tributaries. Soils are maroon.

The permanent population is about 156 inhabitants. The village is well developed - the streets are paved, there is coverage of all mobile operators, there are several convenience store. Operates a community center and city hall "Probuda". The nearest kindergarten is located in the resort Stara Zagora baths, and the closest hospitals and schools are in the city of Stara Zagora.

Sulitsa is the first village in Bulgaria, in which there are three environmental sanitation systems of wastewater and human waste. The village traditionally produces lime.

Nature and sights

Countryside around the village is very picturesque - in the preserved forests of oak and hornbeam can find forest fruits (dogwood, wild pear, wild apple, etc.). And wild flowers (violet, crocus, cyclamen). Meadows full of wild strawberries in the spring and fragrant herbs in the summer. After rain appear multiple species of mushrooms. In the 1960s and 1970s in place of natural forests was cut artificial afforestation with coniferous trees - mostly pine.

In the land of the village there are rich resources of the thermal mineral waters. Along them in the third century Roman bath is constructed and the beginning of balneotherapy in this region - known as Sulichenski bathrooms. In the 1960s, around the bathroom began building of the resort, which still bears the name Stara Zagora mineral baths.

In the neighborhood, just 4-5 km from the village of Sulitsa is the oldest copper mine in Europe, where years before 7000-8000 was mined ore to produce metal.

In the area of ​​the village Sulitsa there are many megalithic Thracian sanctuaries in the form of cromlechs and menhir. The most significant archaeological discovery in the land of the village is a marble idol from 5000-4500 BC.

In the "Virgin Mary's step" (aka "The pace of King Marko") area were produced as sarcophagi found in the tombs of Thracian chiefs in Rose Valley. A corrupt and unused for its intended purpose of the sarcophagus lid and can now be seen in this place. Well-known place for religious worship since ancient times, now in the region has built a chapel.
