Sredets is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Nedelino Municipality, Smolyan region.
In Bulgaria with the same name there is a town in Burgas region and a village in Opan Municipality, Stara Zagora region.
Situated 11 km northeast from the town of Nedelino, 24 km south from the town of Ardino, about 59 km southeast from the town of Smolyan and 285 km southeast from the city of Sofia.
The village has regular bus service.
Located at the foot of the highest peak in the Eastern Rhodopes - Alada peak, at 700 m altitude.
The climate is continental with a strong influence of the Mediterranean. Winter is mild and snowy, summer is cool and moist, and the autumn - long and warm.
Sredets is the largest village in Nedelino Municipality, permanent population is about 450 people.
Here there is a town hall, post office, school, kindergarten, community center, library, health center, cinema, cafe and two shops. There is Internet, cable TV and mobile phone coverage. The nearest hospital is located in the town of Madan (32 km).
Tourism and attractions
The guests of the village can stay at the guest house with restaurant, made in the typical Rhodopean style.
Near the town of Nedelino you can visit chapels "St. Constantine and Helena", "St. Atanas" and "St. Nedelya" - so called "Krastata forest".
