Sokolovo

The village of Sokolovo is located in north-eastern Bulgaria and is a part of Dobrich region. It is located 8 km away from the town of Balchik, 32 km away from the city of Varna, 19 km away from the town of Kavarna, 10 km away from Albena resort and 5 km away from a golf-course.
general information
The village is known to be the oldest and the longest village in Dobrich region, as well as the fastest developing settlement in the area. Its population numbers to 1200 people.
Its former name was Duvan Yuvasa, which means falcon's nest in Turkish. In 1943 the village was named Sokolovo.
infrastructure
In the village there are: a kindergarten, a secondary school, an active community center, a pharmacy, an old mosque, small family hotels, a few stores and a cafe-restaurant. A small chapel named after St. Archangel Michael gathers the Christians from Sokolovo and the nearby villages. A church board has been established and funds have been raised for the construction of a church. It will be named after St George and will be rising right next to the school where the old church which was demolished in the 1960's used to be.
Internet and cable TV are available in the village. A project has been developed for the construction of a park where electricity will be produced using wind power near the village.
The inhabitants of Sokolovo are mainly occupied in tourism and agriculture. The ongoing construction activity in the village provides work for the locals, as well. The unemployment is brought to a minimum.
The village is 8 km away from the town of Balchik, 32 km away from the city of Varna, 19 km away from the town of Kavarna, 10 km away from Albena resort and 5 km away from a golf-course.
