Pastra is a village in South-west Bulgaria. It is part of Rila Municipality, District of Kyustendil.

It stands about 8km east of the town of Rila, about 65 km north-east of the town of Kyustendil, 13 km away from the Rilski Monastery and about 98 km south of the capital of Sofia.

About 20 km west of the village passes European route E79 (from Slovenia through Romania and Bulgaria to Greece), reaching the capital to the north.

The village of Pastra is on the way to Rilski Monastery and there are daily busses linking it to the municipal center of Rila.

The village population is about 217 residents.

The relief is mountainous and the average altitude is 800 m.
Climate is continental, with relatively cool and dry summers and mild winters, with temperatures rarely going under 0°C.

The infrastructure of Pastra is well settled, with partly asphalted and lighted streets, electric and water-supply systems, telephone lines and mobile operators’ coverage.

In the village there are functioning community center, school, kindergarten, church, town house and a number of guest houses and hostels.

Medical care on the territory of Rila Municipality is provided by two GPs, pediatrician and three dentists. The closest hospital is in the town of Kyustendil.

The village of Pastra is disposed on both sides of the road to Rilski Monastery, declared by UNESCO as world heritage monument. On 8000 sq. m of territory open for visitors there are the following: main church, historical museum, ethnographical collection, art gallery, Hrelyova tower, etc.

At the very end of the village there is a beautiful cascade system of waterfalls, called Devil waters. On the steep terraces the waters fall on several levels and then flow into Rilska River.

In the vicinity of the village there are a few mountain lakes, and at about 16 km is Kalin Reservoir, which is the one with highest altitude in Bulgaria and feeds a few hydropower plants. It can be reached by several eco trails, from where a magnificent views of the surrounding mountains are reviled.
