Oborishte village

Oborishte is a village in North-East Bulgaria, part of Valchi Dol municipality, Varna Region. It is located 15 km north-east to Valchi Dol. 25 km south to the town of Dobrich, 26 km north to the town of Suvorovo and 38 km north-west to the city of Varna. The village may be reached by to routes - through the village of Kiselovo or via Varna-Dobrich road through the villages of Botevo and Krumovo. The roads have been repaired in 2007.

The relief is plateau-hilly and upland. Many century-old forests are surrounding the village providing a clear and healthy air. The climate is temperate-continental, influenced by the proximity of Stara Planina mountain. The summer is warm, but not hot, the autumn - sunny, the winter cold with plenty of snowfalls and the spring - cool. The population numbers to approximately 330 people. Altitude - 327 m. The former name of the village used to be Semet.

In the village there is a community center with a rich library, food shops, an Orthodox church, a mayor's office, a small park. All properties in the village are supplied with water and electricity on a regular basis. The roads are in a good condition. The railway station is located 1 km to the village by Varna-Dobrich railway. It provides convenient access to both towns and the nearby villages.Near the village lies a dam-lake. The village is famous for its hunting group. The hunters have made their own shooting lodge. They bought an old house with a large yard then planted the yard with alfalfa so they could feed the game in the winter. In a nearby area they made a mire to attract wild boars.

landmarks

  • The church in the village was built in 1937 by a Romanian colonel in loving memory of his girl Maria, a local beauty. The church yard has an area of approx. 5 decars and 9 big walnut trees are growing there. During the years the church has been renovated many times with the common efforts of both Christians and Muslims. On e of the main sponsors is a man from the village, the bell has also been donated by a local businessman and the icons were painted by the icon-painter Mr. Sava Nikolov.
