Neykovo village

Neykovo is a village in North-east Bulgaria, part of Kavarna municipality, Dobrich region. It is located 28 km north to the town of Kavarna, 56 km east to the town of Dobrich, 18 km north-west to the town of Shabla, 81 km north-east to the city of Varna and 10 km to the sea-coast.

general information

The village lies in the Danube Valley whose relief is flat and hilly-plateau. The climate is temperate-continental, influenced by the proximity of the Black Sea. It is characterised by a hot summer - with plenty of rain in the beginning and rather dry at the end.  The winter in the area is cold and windy, often there are blizzards. The population numbers to 95 people. Altitude - 63 m.

In the village there is a community center with a library, a church. The nearest doctor's office is in the village of Belgun, 8 km to Neykovo and the nearest hospital is in the town of Kavarna. The children from the village may attend the kindergarten and the primary school in the village of Septemvriytzi - 5 km west to Neykovo or the secondary school in the town of Shabla. The village is supplied with water and electricity on a regular basis. The roads are in a good condition. Regular bus transportation is available tot he town of Kavarna and the nearby villages.
The proximity to the sea-coast makes the village rather attractive. The area offers excellent conditions for fishing, rural, diving, archaeological and golf-tourism.

landmarks and tourism

  • On the territory of Shabla rises the oldest lighthouse on the Balkan Peninsula - a smaller-scale replica of the Alexandia Pharos  - one of the world's seven wonders.
  • 21 km south-east to the village and 3 km to the town of Shabla lies the Shabla Lake - a natural reserve inhabited by a great variety of animal, sea and plant species. 25 km away is located the Shabla Tuzla, famous for its curative mud.
  • The town of Kavarna is famous with its annual rock-festival Kavarna Rock Festival. In Kavarna there is also a museum, ethnographic complex, an exposition named Dobrudja and the sea and a community center established 1890.
  • 40 km south-east to the village lies Yaylata archaeological reserve.
