Lazarovo

Lazarovo is a village in Northern Bulgaria. It is located in Kneja municipality, Pleven region.

It is 11 km south of the town of Knezha, 19 km north of the town of Cherven bryag and 52 km west of the town of Pleven. The neighboring villages of Tarnak, Enitsa and Brenitsa are 7 km northwest, 7 km south and 4 km northeast.

The climate is characterized with hot summer and extremely cold winter as in the area in the winter is the coldest place in Bulgaria. The altitude is about 155 m. The village of Lazarovo is disposed on two hills on the banks a small river the locals call barata.

The soil is very fertile and the stock breeding is well developed. In the village there are underground water sources and also in the lower parts are preserved two old style drinking fountains.

The permanent population is about 466 people.

Tourism and landmarks

Here are preserved the Bulgarian traditions as the National evening before the National Holiday that is organized annually just before 3 of March. The grandmothers bring out of the chests their old folk costumes that they once wear during holidays. Also is organized competition for the prettiest costume, best singer and dancer. The gathering of the people in the village is on 21th of November - Archangel's day.

The village is famous with its off road route called Studenata padina and becomes favorite destinations for people that enjoy this sport.

The church "St Archangel Michael" is with newly installed bell.

The old name of Lazarovo is Strupen. Here is born the rebel Lazar.

In proximity to the village is located the dam Enitsa where together with the full of prey areas and the flowing in proximity Iskar river there are created perfect conditions for fishing and hunting.
