Erul is a village in West Bulgaria. It is located in Tran municipality, Pernik region.

It is 18 km south of the town of Tran and 51 km northwest of the town of Pernik. The capital Sofia is 81 km in east direction.

The village is situated in mountain region and its altitude is about 1137 m and it is at the foot of Golemi vrah (1480 m). The climate is with clearly expressed - warm but not hot summer while the winter is severe. The spring is cool with lots of precipitation and comes in the end of March the beginning of April and the fall is warmer.

The permanent population is about 52 people.

The nearest school and kindergarten are working in the municipality where you can also get medical assistance.

Interesting is the fact that scientists from Sweden made researches in the area and found that during the Great movement of the people there was tribe named eruli from ancient German origin that lived here.

Tourism and landmarks

 

In the neighbroing village of Busintsi (15 km northwest) "Museum exhibition of the Busintsi ceramics" which was opened in 1982. Together with the museum section and the exhibition halls there are also working studios and small hotel
Now in the museum there are over 1300 pieces (jugs, jars, cups, bowls, casseroles, pots etc.) total of about a hundred different forms made by over a thousand craftsmen from the village and the region. Only in this museum you could see the so called "okanicheta" which are small jugs for wine and rakiya, the "crondir" which is unique kind of a jug with a hole in the middle. The museum is also keeping a hundred year old furnace that was used by the world famous craftsman Petar.

In proximity are situated the picturesque Erma River Gorge, Rui peak, the rock church "St Petka", the Tran monastery and the Vrabcha monastery.

There is great opportunity for the hunting lovers to catch something in the woods near the village that are full of wild animals. The people who prefer fishing could go the near dams Yarlovtsi and Lilyantsi.
