Dolishte is a village in North-eastern Bulgaria, part of Aksakovo municipality, Varna region. It is located 18 km to the north from the city of Varna and is 20-minutes drive away from Varna International Airport.

general information

The village is surrounded by deciduous forests. It lies in the picturesque Batova valley, which is the only gorge between the city of Varna, the Black Sea and the river of Danube. The relief is flat-hilly. The climate is temperate-continental and is characterized by a hot summer and cold winter with plenty of snowfalls. The former name of the village used to be Vlahlar.
The population of Dolishte numbers to 240 people, including several English families.

 

history

There are many proofs that the territory on which nowadays village of Dolishte lies has been inhabited log time ago. The Thracian Golden Treasure is unique and has no analogue in Bulgaria. It has been discovered by accident  during road reconstruction works in 1962. A low tumulus was then demolished which turned out to be the last home of a rich Thracian notable.

The village has and excellent infrastructure: a post-office, a community center, food shops, a cafe, a tourist complex, a mayoralty, a doctor's office, a park, a play-field, an Orthodox church, a hunting challet. The village is supplied with electricity and water on a regular basis. Regular bus transportation is available to the city of Varna and the nearby villages. The inhabitants of the village may take advantage on all modern communications - internet, Telephone, cable TV and coverage of all mobile operators. The beautiful nature and the intriguing relief provide excellent opportunities for tourism and repose. In the area there are wonderful conditions for the development of hunting, fishing, rural and eco-tourism. The locals are traditionally engaged into farming and stock-breeding. A great number of the village's inhabitants a commuting to Varna on a regular basis.

Near the village are located a hunting reserve and world famous protected areas: Baltata /which is part of Batova Reserve/, Yaltata area, Tuzlata area and Kaliakra National Reserve.
