Village of Garlo

Garlo is a village in Western Bulgaria. It is part of Breznik Municipality, Pernik region.

The village is located 26 km north-west from town of Pernik, 6 km in the same direction from town of Breznik, 42 km west from city of Sofia, 28 km south-west from town of Slivnitsa and 24 km south-east from town of Tran.

Its population is approximately 70 people.

Garlo spreads out a valley at the foot of Greben Mountain. It is 823 m above sea level. The climate is humid continental, mountainous and characterizes with cold winter and cool summer.

The village comprises a mayor, a church and a shop. Education and health services are available in the municipal centre - town of Breznik (just 6 km away).

The population is occupied in stock-breeding - cows, goats, sheep. There is a horse stable with thoroughbred barbs - members of the European club for thoroughbred horses.

Tourism and landmarks

Significant landmark is the underground stone dome - Thracian temple-draw-well created more than 3000 years ago. Its amazing architecture for its time is preserved very well. Important findings give evidence for the early development of the Thracian civilization on the Balkans. The temple-draw-well was found in the 70's of the last century.

Above the village is located Krasava Dam, which is quite big. Its purpose is to supply with water the neighbouring towns and villages. The dam is suitable for fishing as well - carp, sheat-fish, trout and grass carp. The dam is easily accessible by an asphalt road. There are tents, benches and tables for the visitors.
