Village of Borie

Borie is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Rudozem Municipality, Smolyan region.
It is about 5 km northeast from the town of Rudozem, 30 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, 14 km west from the town of Madan, 49 km southeast from the ski resort Pamporovo and 273 km southeast from the city of Sofia.
There are bus links to Rudozem and Smolyan.
Located in a mountainous area at 1007 m altitude. The climate is temperate-continental. Characterized by mild, long winter, with heavy snow and cool summer.
The permanent population is about 250 people.
Here there is a town hall, kindergarten, community center and shop. There is cable TV, Internet and mobile phone coverage. Nearest school and hospital are located in the town of Rudozem.
Tourist attractions
Medieval fortress "Koznik" - located on a cliff above the town of Rudozem. The castle is part of the whole fortification system in the past served as a defense of the Rhodopes.
Ancient Temple below the mount "Tsigansko gradishte". Legend of the name of this place is the Rhodope version of the story of the Tower of Babel.
In the town of Madan:
Cave Museum "Sharenka". This is the first cave museum in Bulgaria.
The area "Gabata" - rock with a small cave in which were found pieces of pottery from different periods.
The area "Kichikaya" is Proto-Bulgarian fortress, later conquered by the Romans. There are old stone walls of buildings and fortress walls. The well dug nine meters down the cliff is completely preserved.
