Berende is a village in West Bulgaria. It is situated in Zemen municipality, Pernik region.
In Bulgaria there is another village with the same name in Dragoman municipality, Sofia region.
It is 30 km north of the town of Zemen and 31 km west of the town of Pernik. The village of Noevtsi is 12 km northeast. The capital Sofia is 62 km east.
It is situated in mountain area at the foot of Cherna (Tsarna) gora mountain and its altitude is between 700 and 999 m. The climate is temperate and is influenced by the low mountain relief. It is characterized by cold winters and considerably hot summers.
The permanent population is about 69 people.
Here are functioning town hall, community center and store. In the village of Noevtsi works the nearest GP, there also are located kindergarten and school. Specialized medical assistance you can get on the territory of the town of Pernik.
Tourism and landmarks
There is monument of the people who died in the wars in the former school yard.
About 3 km from the village is situated Giginski monastery "St st Kozma and Damyan" that is interesting place for an excursion.
Another cultural landmark in the area is Chepinski monastery (4 km).
The dams Begunovtsi (8 km), Yardzhilovtsi (9 km), Bushlyak (12 km) and Slakovtsi (12 km) provide great opportunities for the people who enjoy fishing.
On the territory of Zemen municipality hunting is allowed and could be practiced.
