Barakovo is a village in western Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Kocherinovo, Kyustendil region.

Village of Barakovo is situated on the Rila River, at the southwestern slopes of the Rila Mountains. It is only 8 km north of Blagoevgrad /on the road from the town to the Rila Monastery/, 28 km south of Dupnitsa, 60 km northwest of Bansko, 63 km southeast of Kyustendil, 75 km southwest of Borovets and 90 km south of Sofia.

Its altitude is 380 m.

Population is around 500 people.

The climate is temperate continental. Winters are mild, brief and almost snowless, but the summer is long and dry with little rainfalls.

There is a well developed infrastructure which includes partially paved and illuminated streets, electrification, water system, telephone and Internet communications.

On the territory of the village function "Radost" kindergarten, community center, church "Assumption." The closest school is 2 km away - in town of Kocherinovo - school "Hristo Botev". Hospital and specialized medical care, many kindergartens, schools, hospitals, shops, etc. are available only 8 km in town of Blagoevgrad.

Tourism

5 km north-east, in the village of Stob, is the famous natural landmark "Stobskite pyramidi" /Stob's pyramids/. They are the most popular rock pyramids in Bulgaria. Their average height is between 7 and 10 meters, some reaching heights of 12 meters. They have various forms, most are tapered and end with a stone cap, while others resemble mushrooms.

Blagoevgrad is also rich in cultural attractions. Of particular interest in cultural apsect is quarter "Varosha" - with its unique Renaissance architecture, and also the Historical Museum, the church and many others.

Just 30 km to the north-east is one of the most important cultural monuments in Bulgaria, the symbol of Bulgaria included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage - the Rila Monastery.

In the villages of Tsurvishte and Frolosh there are about 15 caves, in some of which are found graffiti from the Paleolithic era.
