The population of the village numbers to approximately 150 people, as part of them are English citizens. The relief is flat-hilly, many deciduous forests are present in the area. The climate is temperate-continental influenced by the proximity to the Black Sea. It is characterized with cool spring, long and hot summer, mild winter with scanty of snowfalls and a rainy autumn. Altitude - 263 m.

history

Proofs have been found that the settlement existed 4800 years BC and during the time the Thracians lived on these lands. Later on the Romans built a road from Marzianopolis /nowadays Devnya town/ to Noviodunum /currently known as Isakcha - a town in Republic of Romania/ which passed through the territory of nowadays Banovo village. A traveller's station has been built near the road. The remains of both the road and the station may still be seen in the Futula area located south-east of the village.

infrastructure

The infrastructure is very well organized:  transportation to the city of Varna on a regular basis,  daily medical service, asphalt roads,  electricity and water-supply, food shops, a  church dedicated to all saints. A project has been developed for the reconstruction of the school and its transformation to a community center and for the construction of a hotel with a restaurant.

natural resources

From the village there is a magnificent panoramic view towards Varna Lake and the Pobiti Kamani phenomenon. The area is a famouse vine-growing and wine-making center. Various types of quality wines are produced in the area - Muscat Ottonel, Traminer Rose, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The soil is fertile and suitable for growing of various crops. Stock breeding, though, is not well-developed. The area offers excellent conditions for the development of both eco and rural tourism.

landmarks

  • Pobiti Kamani /the petrified forest/: It consists of several groups of natural rock formations on a total area of 70 km². The formations are mainly stone columns between 5 and 7 metres high and from 0.3 to 3 metres thick. The columns do not have solid foundations, but are instead hollow and filled with sand, and look like they are stuck into the surrounding sands, which gives the phenomenon its name. In order to be preserved, Pobiti Kamani was designated a natural landmark in 1937. There are a number of theories regarding the phenomenon's origin, divided roughly into two groups — supporting an organic or a mineral origin. According to the former, the formations are the result of coral activity, while the latter explain the phenomenon with the prismatic weathering of the rocks, the formation of sand and limestone concretions, or lower Eocene bubbling reefs.
  • Batovata Area: There are plenty of deciduous forests of tree species such as Quercus cerris, Q.Frainetto and Carpinus Betulus. The rest of the territory is covered with fields, pastures, orchards, arable land and vineyards. Most of the vineyards are located near the villages scattered in the area. The greatest asset of this landmark is its geographic position - on the western Black Sea migratory route Via Pontica. Batovata is a natural habitat of 184 bird species, 50 of which are endangered species in Bulgaria, 80 - in Europe and 7 species are endangered worldwide.
