Nova Zagora is a town in central Bulgaria, Sliven Region. It is the administrative center of the municipality of Nova Zagora.

 

Location

 

Located 32 km east of Stara Zagora. The city is the second largest in the area after the merger. Located 222 km from Sofia and 37 km from Sliven. Population in the city is about 25 000 inhabitants.

 

Climate

Nova Zagora is located in the northern part of the Gornotrakiyska Nizina Valley. The region is famous for its mild temperate climate and flat terrain. Cinnamon fertile soils and abundance of water sources determine agricultural production. The geographical situation of the city defines it as a convenient hub for automotive and agricultural transport.

History

The first traces of life in the region date back thousands of years. Many archeological sites are located in the region, showing settlements dating back to the Stone Age and the Stone-Copper age (Eneolithic). The most prominent archeological site is in the nearby village of Karanovo. The Nova Zagora Historical Museum has many historically significant artifacts dating back to this era.

Karanovo mound is located in the northwestern part of the village Karanovo. It is one of the most significant historical sites in the Balkans and Europe. There are all covered prehistoric eras - from Neolithic to Bronze inclusive. Total mound was inhabited for about 3000
1 km southeast of the ancient and medieval burial site is located Dalga Mogila - part of a large necropolis.  In 1976. the periphery of the mound were discovered three brick tombs, where were buried Thracian physicians. Found a very extensive inventory tombstone - bronze, glass and pottery, bronze lamps, bronze ink, gold wreath and others. Surgical instruments found in the three tombs, very well maintained and decorated, are the best examples found so far in Bulgaria and one of the best in the territory of the former Roman Empire. The tombs date from the I-II century
Settlement mound near the village Dyadovo is located directly southwest of the village Dyadovo near the spring. The mound is one of the biggest in Bulgaria and Europe. Hight is 18 meters. This is mainly prehistoric eras - Stone, mednokamenna, Bronze Age.
Teke St. Elijah - Tomb of Kademlia grandmother Sultan is situated on top Adatepe (Sveti Ilija) of Svetiiliyskite Heights, southwest of the village Grafitovo.

Tourism

The territory of Nova Zagora and in the surrounding areas takes priority development of rural tourism and ecotourism, based on authentic Bulgarian folklore, tradition, custom, originality.
Nearby are many family hotels offering high quality service and guarantees an excellent vacation.
What impresses visitors of the site is unique nature, the wealth of herbs and a variety of animal species in the vicinity.

 

Economy

The municipality is produced machine tools and is known worldwide for its quality produce.
The comnay Gradus produces different types of alcoholic beverages.
Miroglio Ltd. is one of the largest companies in Bulgaria for the production of textiles;
The biggest wine producers in the territory of the municipality. They are: AD Rousse Winery - Cellar Korten and Vini Sliven - Cellar Nova Zagora. Korten cellar produces high quality wines, spirits and other alcoholic beverages. Production is intended for both internal and the external market.
Trend in the municipality in recent years many young farmers to invest in the creation of new vines that will provide raw material for wine production in the future.
Manufacture of dairy products from cow and sheep milk are carried out mainly by the Milky Way Corp. Nova Zagora. The company manufactures products for internal and external market.
The territory of Nova Zagora and established companies for the production of meat and meat products.
Grain growing  bread and  fresh pastries making  are also quite developed.
The municipality has good traditions in this sector of the economy. During the 80 years of last century it was the largest producer of agricultural products in South-East region of Bulgaria.
Plant is important for agriculture in the region. Cereals occupy 66% of arable land, the biggest share have the wheat and barley.
The conditions for growing wine and table grape varieties in the municipality of Nova Zagora are good and the relative profitability of production is high. Total area under vines is about 2600 acres. Of fruit species with highest importance are peaches, cherries, apples and plums.
