Village of Zmievo

Zmievo is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Smolyan Municipality, Smolyan region.
It is 12 km west from the town of Rudozem, nearly 47 km southeast from the town of Smolyan, 26 km west from the town of Madan and 274 km southeast fromthe city of Sofia. Neighboring village Byala reka is 8 km east .
The altitude is 1000 meters. The climate is temperate. Characterized by mild winters and long, and summer is cool.
The permanent population is about 20 people.
The village has a store and a cafe. In the village of White River you will find a community center, a kindergarten and a doctor's office. Nearest hospital and school are located in the town of Rudozem.
Tourism and sightseeing
In the town of Rudozem interesting are the following landmarks:
- Medieval fortress "Koznik" - set on a cliff above the town of Rudozem. It can be reached by Eco trail "Kechi Kaya" - "Koznik". Fort is part of the whole fortification system, which in the past served as a defense of the Rhodopes.
- Ancient temple below the peak "Tsigansko gradishte". This historic landmark is reached by Eco trail "Gypsy gradishte" - "The court".
- Mosque and "Golden Quran" in the village of Chepinci (20 km). It is the emblem of the village and is the only one in the country with two minarets of 35 meters, has a very rich library with over 800 publications and books in Arabic and Persian philosophy, astronomy, Islamic law and rhetoric.
