Village of Zmeitsa

Zmeitsa is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Dospat Municipality, Smolyan region.
It is situated 10 km east from the town of Dospat, 66 km northwest from the town of Smolyan, 207 kilometers southeast from the city of Sofia. Village of Borino is located 10 kilometers north-east.
There is regular bus transport to Dospat.
The village is situated at 1,327 meters above sea level. The permanent population is about 1,500 inhabitants.
The climate is mountainous with Aegean influence. It is characterized by mild winter, cool summer.
The village has a town hall, community center with a movie theater and a library, kindergarten, school and shop. There is coverage of all mobile operators, Internet and cable TV. There is a medical center with two doctors and a dentist. Nearest schools and health facilities are located in Dospat.
Tourism and landmarks
Next to the village is the impressive Roman bridge "Kemera" (dating back to 2-1 century BC.).
Along Zmeitsa passes hiking-biking trail and two eco trails reaching the village of Gela.
Sarnena River and White River are suitable for catching trout. Of the Deer River (Karadzha Dere) has two dams, lake fishing paid, Roman bridge and many alcoves for relaxation, equipped with barbecues, fountains and chevermedzhiynitsi with spring water.
In the land of the village is located peak Videnitsa - 1652 m above sea level, where there are remains of a Thracian sanctuary, which is supposed to be the second most important in the Rhodopes.
Natural beauty and attractions in the region are - areas Haidushki polyani, rocks of Orpheus, Trigrad Gorge /24 km/ and Buynovsko Gorge, Yagodinska Cave / 22 km / Devil's Throat Cave / 26 km /.
