Zelenikovo is a village in southern Bulgaria. It is located in Kardzhali Municipality, Kardzhali region.

In Bulgaria there is another village of the same name that is located in Brezovo Municipality, Plovdiv region.

Village of Zelenikovo is located near Arda river and Kardzhali dam lake in the Eastern Rhodopes. It is about 6 km north-west from town of Kardzhali, about 40 km north-east from town of Ardino, about 52 km south-west from town of Haskovo and about 270 km south-east from the capital Sofia.

The climate is transitional continental and is influenced by the Mediterranean. The winter is mild with an average temperature of 0 C, and the summer is warm with an average temperature of about 24 C.

The population is about 280 people.

Zelenikovo is a water-supplied and electrified village. It belongs administratively to the neighbouring village of Enchets (1 km). There are also the nearest post office, health service, primary school, kindergarten and community center. The closest hospitals are in the town of Kardzhali.

Tourism

In the summer Kardzhali dam lake, one of the largest dam lakes in the country, is a wonderful place for sunbathing, relaxation and practicing various water sports. Nearby there are hotels, villas and restaurants that are ready to welcome tourists both from the country and from abroad.

A great tourist attraction are the floating pontoons-restaurants offering rich fish menu. Tourist may also enjoy jets, water bicycles and water ski. Nearby there is a modern rowing base.

Fishing here is well developed as the waters of Kardzhali dam lake offer a variety of fish - brook trout, catfish, whitefish, sturgeon, mullet, carp, perch, bleak, rudd.

About 20 km from the village is the medieval complex Perperikon, which is part of The 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria and it is a big megalith sanctuary.
