Zabardo is a village located in southern Bulgaria, part of the Chepelare Municipality, Smolyan region.
It is about 54 km northwest from the city of Smolyan, 27 km northwest from the town of Chepelare and 49 km southwest from the town of Asenovgrad.
Permanent residents of the village are about 500 people.
The relief is average mountainous and the altitude is 1,050 m.
Climate is continental, winter is mild and snowy, with average temperatures about 1 º C and summer - cool, with average temperatures around 23 º C.
The infrastructure of Zabardo includes partially paved streets and lighting, complete electrification, water supply system and telephone.
About 15 km from the village passes a secondary road that connects the village with the city of Chepelare, Smolyan and Asenovgrad.
There is regular bus transport to and from the town of Asenovgrad.
The village has a town hall, post office, primary school, community center and church. Also has a network of retail outlets and restaurants.
General Practitioner looks after the residents of the village.
The main occupations of the people in Zabardo are agriculture and livestock, tourism takes an increasing share.
Tourist and cultural attractions
Bachkovo Monastery is located 40 km away from the village of Zabardo. It is the second largest Bulgarian monastery. It is surrounded by picturesque hills of the Rhodope Mountains, which together with its size and antiquity make it one of the most popular in Bulgaria. Monastery complex and the surrounding area are developed tourist destination with numerous shops, stalls and restaurants surrounding the walkway to the monastery.
One of the greatest landmarks in Bulgaria - "Skalnite mostove" ("Wonderful Bridges") is only 4 km from the village. They represent rock formations in the form of a bridge. Close to the phenomenon there are two huts where tourists can stay.
Bulgaria's only museum of caves is located in Chepelare. It sets out the documents, photos, and rock formations of the Rhodope Karst. The museum is a true temple of avid cavers.
Nearby is Pamporovo ski-resort. Peak "Snezhanka" is a part of the hundred national tourist site of the Bulgarian Tourist Union. A stamp can be taken from the hut "Studenets".
