The village of Volovartsi

Volovartsi is a village in Southern Bulgaria. It is part of Kardzhali Municipality, Kardzhali Region.

It is located 13 km south-west of the center of Kardzhali, 19 km north-west of Momchilgrad, 41 km east of Ardino and about 254 km south-east from Sofia.

Volovartsi is situated in the Eastern Rhodopes, at an altitude of about 577 m. The relief is hilly with beautiful panoramic views. The summer is warm and hot and the winter - soft and short.

The population is approximately 60 people.

The village is provided with electricity and water and has partly asphalted and lighted streets. There is regular bus transport to Kardzhali. In the village of Opalchensko /7 km in the north-east/ you will find a post office, a police department, a kindergarten, a church, a GP and shops. The nearest general hospital is in Kardzhali. 

LANDMARKS AND TOURISM

Volovartsi is about 14 km away of Studen kladenets Dam and about 20 km away of Kardzhali Dam. In the summer they are preferred destination for recreation, sun-bathing and water sport practicing. There are many hotels, restaurants, villas and guest houses. Interesting are the floating pontoon-restaurants with rich fish menu.

In the region you can visit three of the 100 National Tourist sites:

  • The Regional museum of history in the town of Kardzhali;

 

In Kardzhali you can also see:

  • Art Gallery "Stanka Dimitrova" with an exposition of over 2 000 works - precious collections of icons and Renaissance prints, paintings and sculpture;
  • Architectural complex "Old Town" consisting of old houses, the most famous of which are "Kerimov House", "House of the Architects", etc.
